With the location Marburg, we have an ideal cluster of medical research environment with Philipps University Clinical Practice with the hospital UKGM, the Pharmaceutical Cluster, and our CreativitySpace, SleevesUp! City Marburg for workshops.
Emil von Behring, who became a professor at the Philipps University of Marburg in 1895, was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1901 for developing serum therapy for diphtheria. He used the prize money to finance the founding of a pharmaceutical factory to produce the serum. After his first laboratory at the castle, it became too small. The city of Marburg could not provide him with a suitable property, so he founded the Behring-Werk oHG in 1904 with the Marburg pharmacist Carl Siebert, the Behring-Werk oHG. In 1913, he bought an old brickworks in neighboring Marbach, which later became the company's headquarters.
